John Orr came from Ireland to South Africa and settled in Kimberley in 1886, he was renowned for his entrepreneurial skills and went on to be not only be the Mayor of Kimberley for many years but also a well-respected icon in Kimberley. Leaving his footprints at both Mcgregor Museum as well as Dunluce House.
John Orr’s daughter Eileen and her husband Lionel Cooper were one of the first residents to own Milner house and lived here till 1932 enjoying the historic architecture and hipped roof before modern structures became a norm.
