Kimberley Heritage Homes Walk

Step straight out of Milner House into Kimberley's most historic streets — a self-guided walk past the grand homes the diamond rush built.

One of the quiet pleasures of staying at Milner House is that some of Kimberley's finest heritage architecture is right on the doorstep. The surrounding streets — part of Kimberley's historic Memorial Road heritage area — are lined with the Victorian and Edwardian homes of the men and families who made their fortunes in diamonds.

Quick facts

  • Starts at our front door — entirely on foot
  • Allow 1 to 2 hours at an easy pace
  • Best in the cool of the morning
  • Dunluce, Rudd House and more along the way

Dunluce

One of Kimberley's most beautiful heritage houses, Dunluce is a lovingly preserved diamond-magnate home with period furnishings and a graceful garden. It offers a vivid sense of how the city's wealthy lived at the turn of the 20th century and is cared for as part of the McGregor Museum.

Rudd House

The sprawling family home of Charles Dunell Rudd — business partner of Cecil John Rhodes — Rudd House is a rambling, characterful property filled with original family possessions. Together with Dunluce it forms the heart of the heritage walk.

Grand streets and old churches

Between the headline houses, the walk takes you past stately facades, ornate verandahs, jacaranda-shaded avenues and historic churches — the everyday fabric of the diamond city. The McGregor Museum sits within the same quarter, so you can fold a visit into the same morning before heading to the Big Hole by car.

Walk it from Milner House

Because Milner House is right in the historic quarter, you don't need a car for this one. Set out after breakfast, wander the heritage streets at your own pace, and be back in time for a swim or lunch at the guest house.

Stay in the Heart of Historic Kimberley
